Subject

Film Studies is a collective term for the study of moving images and image cultures from the time before the breakthrough of film to the contemporary media environment's screens, technologies, and platforms. The subject focus thus significantly concerns media turning points in a broad theoretical, historical, and contemporary perspective: in our field, both research objects and the methods by which they are examined are in constant change.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include course management and supervision of thesis work in film studies at the undergraduate level. Teaching is primarily conducted in Swedish.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible for appointment as a temporary university lecturer is one who has obtained a doctorate in film studies or has equivalent scientific competence that is relevant considering the subject content and responsibilities of the position.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require that the applicant has the ability to collaborate and is otherwise suitable to fulfill the responsibilities. Good knowledge of the Swedish language is a requirement for the position.

Assessment Criteria

Meritorious for the appointment are scientific and pedagogical skills as well as experience in teaching in the above-described responsibilities.

In the assessment of applicants, great importance will be placed on pedagogical skills. Documentation of previous teaching experience in film studies or equivalent is required. It is also important to have the ability to collaborate well with colleagues. Teaching and pedagogical skills are supported by certificates from previous program directors or equivalent.

For the assessment of scientific skills, the applicant is required to submit a written account of one page regarding their research profile and activities as a researcher with their application.

Demonstrated administrative skills, e.g., through the development of new courses and/or course management, will also be taken into account.

Meritorious is higher education pedagogical training of at least 15 higher education credits or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways.

Stockholm University will primarily consider the applicant who, after a comprehensive assessment of competence, merits, skills, and personal abilities, has the best conditions to perform the current responsibilities and contribute to a positive development of the operations.

The position is for 50 – 100% and is temporary for a period of 3 – 6 months depending on how many will be hired. Start in March 2026 or by agreement.
